This sample will describe how to delete images for products or product variants using the regular Import tool facilities.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Use the “Export” page of your store’s Admin area (Catalog > Export) to export your existing products.

  2. Download the resulting export file and open it in a spreadsheet editor.

  3. Edit the file removing the columns whose contents will not need to be updated. Care not to remove the required columns.

According to CSV Import: Products, the required columns for importing products are sku and name; you must keep them.

Suppose you need to remove images not just for simple products but also for product variants. In that case, you will also need to keep the column variantSKU - the values in this column are required to identify specific variants.

As you will update the images of products or product variants, you should keep the columns images (for simple products) and variantImage (for variants).

Below is how your file may look as a result:

  4. For the products and product variants that need to have their images removed, replace the image URL (file path) with the word “NULL” (in capitalized case).

  5. Save the file and import it back via the “Import” page in your store’s Admin area (Catalog > Import).

After the import process completes, you should see that the product or variant images with the path specified as “NULL” have been removed.
