After configuring data mapping rules at the marketplace level, you can readjust or further refine the mapping rules at the level of specific categories and products.

Data Mapping at Category Level

To adjust the data mapping rules for your store's Amazon Integration at the category level, go to the Categories page of your store's Admin area (Catalog > Categories).

Locate the category for which you need to adjust data mapping rules and open its details for viewing/editing. For example, we need to adjust the rules for the category "Wheels". We navigate to this category and click on its name.

Now we can view the category details.

Note the Amazon tab; this tab is where we adjust Amazon-related settings for the category.

At the top of the Amazon tab, a Marketplace selector is provided. Before we proceed to readjust any settings, we need to select the marketplace to which the settings will apply.

In the Fields Mapping section, we can observe the fields Amazon category and Product type which indicate the existing data mapping rules for the "Wheels" category, specifying its corresponding Amazon category and product type.

This information indicated here is exactly the same as specified in the category mapping rules at the marketplace level.

If necessary, we can edit these fields to change the Amazon category and/or Product type linked to the current category. After saving the changes, the updated data mapping information for the category will also appear in the Data Mapping section at the marketplace level.

Further below, in the same section of the page, a list of product fields for the selected Amazon product type is displayed.

In our case, some of the Amazon product fields already have X-Cart product field names specified for them in the Export from X-Cart product field column. These fields are the ones that were mapped earlier at the marketplace level; they are shown in grey. As to the other fields on the list which are shown as "Not mapped", they are exactly that: fields for which no mapping rules have been set yet.

We can keep the field mapping rules for the category as is or, if necessary, readjust them at this level.

For example, let us take the Amazon product field "Item weight" and map it to the X-Cart product field "Weight".

This field mapping rule configured at the category level will be applied only to products of the product type "Wheel" in the category "Street Motorcycle". It will not be applied to products of the same product type in any other categories, should we have such products in other categories.

Similarly, at the category level, we can override the general data mapping rules configured at the marketplace level by configuring custom mapping rules. For example, we previously specified at the marketplace level that we want the Amazon field "Product Description" to be mapped to the X-Cart product field "Full description".

If we want we can configure an exclusion to this rule at the category level. For example, we can specify in the Amazon settings of the category "Wheels" that for this category we want to use the X-Cart product field "Description" (instead of "Full Description") as the source of data for the Amazon product field "Product Description".

This way, an exception will be formed: For any product types using the Amazon product field "Product Description", this field will be populated with data from the X-Cart's product field "Full Description" - with the exception of products of the same product types from the "Wheels" category; for products being submitted to Amazon from the "Wheels" category, the Amazon "Product Description" field will be populated with data from the X-Cart's "Description" field.

Data Mapping at Product Level

It is possible to fine-tune data mapping rules at the level of specific products. Similarly to categories, products also have an Amazon settings tab in their details, and you can use the settings on this tab to override the general mapping rules configured at the marketplace and category levels.

In the same way as for categories, at the top of the Amazon settings tab of products, a Marketplace selector is provided. Before you proceed to readjust any settings, you need to select the marketplace to which the settings will apply.

Unlike the Amazon settings tab of categories, the Amazon settings tab of products provides a setting that can be used to allow/forbid the export of the product to Amazon. (In the Export Options section, see the setting Allow export to Amazon). For products that you want to be included in the feeds for submission, the Allow export to Amazon setting needs to be set to "On" (Active).

The Fields Mapping section is where you configure data mapping rules for the product. The product from our example ([Attributes & Options] ROTIFORM® - AVV 3PC Custom Finish) - the one shown in the screenshot above - is from the category "Wheels" (subcategory of "Wheels & Tires"). So it inherits the Amazon category and Product type from that category:

Amazon category and Product type as they appear at category level

Amazon category and Product type as they appear at product level

Further below, in the same section of the page, a list of data mapping rules is provided. Since we have already configured some data mapping rules at the marketplace and category levels above the product, we can see those rules here—they are inherited by the product from the marketplace and the category.

If you need to treat the current product as an exclusion and provide a different set of data mapping rules for it than those configured at the marketplace and the category levels, you can describe the changes in the Fields Mapping section. For example, you can specify a different Amazon category and/or a different Product type for this specific product, as well as keep the original Product type but specify a different set of product field mapping rules.
