Although the Make/Model/Year (MMY) filter helps customers find parts that fit their vehicle, it’s limited to just four levels of fitment data. And may not account for details such as engine size, drivetrain, or brake type, which can lead to customers receiving incompatible parts and requesting returns.

In this article, we’ll show you how to prevent this by adding fitment notes, which provide a more detailed compatibility breakdown.

What Are Fitment Notes?

A fitment note is a short description that provides additional details about a part’s compatibility. It clarifies installation details, including conditions, modifications, and restrictions, helping customers avoid incorrect purchases.

Here are some examples of fitment notes you can add:

🔝 Trim level requirements

Fits EX and LX models only

🏎️ Engine or transmission compatibility

For 2.0L Turbo engine only

📅 Production date ranges

Fits models manufactured after 06/2015

🚫 Exclusions

Does not fit models with adaptive cruise control

🛠 Installation requirements

Air suspension installation tools and a compressor are required

⚠️ Warnings

Modification of the air suspension system may void manufacturer warranties

How to Add Fitment Notes?

You can add fitment notes in several ways:

Automotive Integration

If your catalog provider or warehouse distributor uses fitment notes, they can be included during the catalog import.

CSV Import

Upload fitment notes in bulk using a CSV file.

Manually

Add fitment notes directly in the specific field of your X-Cart Admin.

To manually add fitment notes:

  1. In your X-Cart Admin, go to CatalogProducts.

  2. Select the product you want to update to open its Details page.

  3. Go to the Fitment tab and click the Note field for a specific fitment to edit.

  4. Enter your note.

  5. Repeat for other fitments (car models) if needed.

  6. Click Save changes.

Customer Experience

When a customer selects an MMY that includes a fitment note, every matching product will display the Fitment Note on the following pages:

  • Search results

  • Category and brand pages

  • Product lists (list view, table view, grid view)

  • Product details page (under the Fits Your Vehicle tag)

See the example below for reference.
