You can define which shipping zones (countries, states, cities etc) are eligible for your Spend X, Get Free Shipping promotions.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up eligible address zones so the offer applies only to orders shipping to selected areas – and how exactly the free shipping is applied at checkout.
Before you begin
Setup your shipping zones under Store › Localization › Zones.
Reasons to setup shipping zone eligibility
Offering free shipping when customers spend a certain amount can increase order size – but it’s not always cost-effective for every location. That’s where shipping zone eligibility comes in. Here are a few common cases:
Local only | Say you operate in Georgia and use your own truck to deliver orders. It makes sense to offer free shipping just within your area – not to other states you can’t realistically reach. |
Exclude international shipping | U.S. shipping is affordable for your business, but international rates are too high. You can limit the offer to U.S. addresses only. |
Skip remote areas. | Some regions are expensive to ship to. Excluding them from the offer helps you avoid unexpected costs. |
By setting shipping zone limits, you stay in control of your shipping budget while still giving a strong incentive to customers in the right locations.
How to set where free shipping offer applies
In your X-Care Admin:
Go to Promotions › Special Offers.
Click Create or edit existing Special offer.
Scroll to the Conditions section.
Use Eligible address zones to select one or more zones from the list.
Click Create or Update to save your changes.
If no zones are selected, the offer will be applied to any shipping address by default.
💡 The offer will apply only if the customer's shipping address falls within one of the selected zones. If the address doesn’t match any selected zone, the offer won’t be applied at checkout.
Choose how free shipping is applied
When creating a Spend X, Get Free Shipping offer, you can choose how the free shipping is applied at checkout using the Apply zero shipping cost to setting.
There are two available options:
The cheapest shipping option (default) | Automatically applies free shipping to the lowest-cost method available for the customer. |
“Free shipping” method | Applies the offer only if your store has a shipping method specifically called Free shipping. If the Free Shipping and Shipping Freights add-on is disabled or not installed, this option will not appear in the list. |
