In X-Cart, product information includes two types of product descriptions: Description and Full description.

Description

The Description field is intended to provide a concise summary of the product. It is displayed in the following locations:

  • Product List pages
Shown in List View mode on all pages with product listings, including:

    • Category pages

    • Brand pages

    • Coming Soon pages

  • Product Details page (Storefront)
Used as a short description displayed near the product title and price.

  • Search Results page (List View)
Appears under product titles when search results are shown in List View mode.

  • Search Bar suggestion dropdown (Cloud Search add-on)
If a product does not have a Full Description, the Description field is used to display a brief summary in the search bar suggestion dropdown.

Full description

The Full description field contains extended information about the product, such as features, specifications, or usage instructions. It is shown in the following areas:

  • Product Details page – Description tab
Displayed under the "Description" tab, allowing customers to read detailed information about the product.

  • Search Bar suggestion dropdown (Cloud Search add-on)
If available, either the full content or a relevant fragment of the Full Description is shown in the search bar’s dropdown results.

Features & Benefits

When products are imported into your store using auto integrations—such as Turn14 Distribution, SEMA Data, or CatalogRack by DCi—descriptions can be generated automatically based on the data provided by these sources.

If available in the supplier’s catalog, the imported descriptions may include a Features & Benefits section. This section typically appears as a list of bullet points highlighting key selling points of the product (performance advantages, material specifications, etc.)

These bullet points are added automatically at the end of both the Description and the Full description, helping shoppers better understand the value and functionality of the product.
