By default, the Home page (Front page) of your X-Cart store contains a dummy Welcome message and a dummy banner. Depending on your store's skin and layout, the placement of the banner and welcome message may be somewhat different.

For example, here is what it looks like in X-Cart's Crisp White skin:

Changing the Default Welcome Message

One of the first things you might want to do while setting up your new X-Cart store is delete or change the default Welcome message.

The default Welcome message can be adjusted via the Front page settings section in the Admin area or - in X-Cart 5.5 - via the Storefront Builder.

To adjust the default Welcome message via the Front page settings section:

  1. In your store's Admin area, go to editing the Front page.

X-Cart 5.5.x: Go to Design > Menus & Pages. Make sure you are viewing the Front page tab.

X-Cart 5.4.x and earlier: Go to Content > Front page. Make sure you are viewing the Front page tab.

  2. Edit the text "Welcome to X-Cart Demo Store!"; if you do not want to use a Welcome text, remove the text used by default leaving the Description field blank.

  3. Click Update to save the changes.

The Welcome text on the storefront home page will be updated.

Changing the Default Front Page Banner

You might want to change the default banner image shown on the Customer storefront, replace the existing dummy banner with your custom one or disable them altogether.

The Front page banner can be adjusted via the Front page settings section in the Admin area or - in X-Cart 5.5 - via the Storefront Builder.

To manage the Front page banner via the Front page settings section, follow the steps below.

X-Cart 5.5.x:

  1. In your store's Admin area, go to Design > Menus & Pages. The Front page section opens.

  2. Switch to the Banner rotation tab.

X-Cart 5.4.x and earlier:

  1. In your store's Admin area, go to Content > Front page. The Front page section opens.

  2. Switch to the Banner rotation tab.

To disable a banner:

  1. On the Banner Rotation tab, switch OFF the Enabled toggle.

  2. Click Submit to save the changes.
    The banner will be disabled.

To change the banner contents:

  1. In the Banner Rotation tab, use the Enabled toggle to enable/disable the banner.

If you prefer not to show the banner just yet, switch OFF the toggle. You can publish the banner later by switching the toggle ON and updating the banner settings.

  2. Set the Banner interval (in seconds). This setting works only for a rotating banner - several images (banner frames) switching periodically. The setting specifies the frequency of the banner frames switching. If a banner has just one image, it will not rotate. Hence this setting will be ignored.

  3. Upload the image(s) for your banner. To create a simple static banner, upload a single image. To create a rotating banner, upload multiple images.

Recommended banner parameters for Retina and 4k displays:

    • image size 3840ั…880 px

    • JPG format with a 50%-80% compression

    • file size 100-300 kb

You can use tools like ImageOptim or TinyPNG for banner optimization.

For each image, you can add a target link. When a store visitor clicks on the banner image, the page you specify using this link will open (For example, this could be a link to the product details page or a category page).

    • Since the banner already contains some default image frames, you will need to either replace them with the custom ones or disable the respective frames so they will not be displayed.

    • If you need more image frames than your banner already has, use the "Add banner" button to add more. Clicking the controller adds a new blank line to the table presenting the banner content; you can use it to add your image and image link.

    • You can rearrange the order in which the banner's image frames are displayed by dragging and dropping the images within the banner content table.

  4. Click Update to save the changes.

The banner will be updated.
