Google ReCAPTCHA Add-on Setup

Learn how to configure the add-on.

PREREQUISITES: Create or sign in to your Google reCAPTCHA account and get the site key and secret key there.


To configure the add-on:

  1. Click the Settings link for the Google ReCAPTCHA add-on.

    The add-on settings page will open:

  2. Adjust the settings.

  3. Click Submit to make the configuration active. Once you do so, Google ReCAPTCHA protection for your store will be enabled.

Google reCAPTCHA account

This section enables you to specify the information your store will require for connection to your registered free Google reCAPTCHA account.

  • API version: The API version you want to use.

  • Site key: The site key generated for the API version selected above.

  • Secret key: The secret key generated for the API version selected above.

Google reCAPTCHA settings

This section enables you to configure your general reCAPTCHA form settings.

  • For reCAPTCHA v2, you will be able to adjust the following settings:

    • Theme: Select the theme of the form.

    • Size: Select the size of the form.

      Depending on the selected theme and size, your reCAPTCHA form will look different:

  • For reCAPTCHA v3 (Beta version), you will be able to adjust the following settings:

    • Minimal score required to pass verification: Define a score from 0 (definitely bot) to 1 (definitely human) a user should gain to pass verification.

    • Throttling period (seconds): Set the period in seconds to limit the number of requests a user can submit in a given amount of time.

Forms protected with Google reCAPTCHA

This section enables you to choose the actions to protect with Google reCAPTCHA.

  • API v2 allows to toggle on the reCAPTCHA protection for the following forms:

    • Sign-in form (storefront)

    • Password recovery form

    • Customer sign-up form

    • Contact form

    • Vendor sign-up form (if the Multi-vendor add-on is enabled)

  • API v3 (Beta version) allows to toggle on the reCAPTCHA protection for the following forms:

    • Sign-in form (storefront)

    • Password recovery form

    • Customer sign-up form

    • Contact form

    • Vendor sign-up form (if the add-on is enabled)Multivendor

    • Newsletter subscription form (if the add-on is enabled)Newsletter

    Note that the contents of the "Forms protected with Google reCAPTCHA" page section in your Admin area may not look like on the screenshot above.

    For example, you may see it like this:

    Each form on the list has two more settings. They are hidden until you reveal them turning ON the respective toggle. Some of the forms have reCAPTCHA enabled by default, which you may see when first accessing the add-on settings page.

    These settings enable you to configure the following parameters for the form:

    • FORM_NAME minimal score: A score that the user needs to gain to pass verification. You can set it to any value from 0 (definitely bot) to 1 (definitely human). The value set for the field overrides the "Minimal score" setting from "Google reCAPTCHA settings."

    • Fallback action (challenge): An action (challenge) that should be taken if the user's score is less than the value specified by the "minimal score" setting for the form. The available options here are:

      • Do nothing;

      • Deny using the form;

      • Email confirmation link.
