Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is replacing Universal Analytics. On July 1, 2023, all standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits.

The X-Cart's Google Analytics add-on supports integration with Universal Analytics and GA4, starting with v5.4.2.0 (for X-Cart 5.4.1.x) and v5.5.1.0 (for X-Cart 5.5.0.x). The new add-on version allows an easy switch from one instance to another. If you are using the add-on in connection with a Universal Analytics account, you can switch to GA4 after the add-on update. The current UA configuration settings will remain as is during the update.

So your steps to start using the new GA4 account are as follows:

  1. Update the Google Analytics add-on to v5.4.2.0 (for X-Cart 5.4.1.x) and v5.5.1.0 (for X-Cart 5.5.0.x) in your store Admin area. Read more about how to apply updates here.

  2. Switch your Google account from Universal Analytics to GA4. Check Google recommendations on how to do it properly.

  3. Copy the GA4 Measurement ID and API secret to use these values for the Google Analytics add-on re-configuration in your online store. Check how to obtain the required Measurement ID and API secret here.

  4. Connect the Google Analytics add-on in your online store to your new GA4 account. For this purpose:

    • Open the Google Analytics add-on settings page

    • Switch the Google Analytics version from Universal Analytics to GA4.

It hides the Web Property ID field and adds the Measurement ID and API secret fields instead.

    • Specify your GA4 Measurement ID and API secret.

    • Click Submit.

That's it! Now your online store is connected to your new GA4 account and will start collecting data according to the new Google Analytics 4 protocols.
