After you configure data mapping rules at the marketplace level, you can refine them for specific categories and products. Rules set at a lower level override the rules inherited from the level above: a product uses its own rules first, then the rules of its category, then the rules of the marketplace.
Data mapping at the category level
To adjust the mapping rules for a category, go to Catalog > Categories, open the category you need, and switch to the Amazon tab.
At the top of the tab, select the marketplace the settings apply to. Mapping rules are saved separately for each marketplace.
The Fields Mapping section contains the following settings.
Amazon category
Use this field to find the right product type. The Amazon category list works like the category selector on the product page:
Start typing a name to search. The list is loaded gradually; scroll down to load more.
Each item shows the full path, for example Automotive / Tires & Wheels / Accessories & Parts / Hubcaps. You select the lowest-level category of the branch.
To clear the mapping, select No Amazon category.
The list of Amazon categories is built into the Amazon Integration add-on and is updated together with the add-on. If you cannot find a category that you see in Seller Central, update the add-on to the latest version first.
If a category from your existing mapping has been removed by Amazon and is missing from the updated list, the Amazon category field of that mapping may become empty after the update. If this happens, select another category (or just a product type, see below) and save the changes.
Subcategories and products of the category inherit the Amazon category and the product type, unless you set their own values.
Product type
The product type defines what kind of item you are listing on Amazon and which Amazon fields are available for it. Select the product type after the Amazon category:
If you selected an Amazon category, the list contains only the product types available for that category.
If you did not select an Amazon category, the list contains all product types available for the marketplace. You can leave Amazon category empty and select a product type directly.
Until you select a product type, the page shows the message “Select product type to see a list of mapping fields.”
Products are exported to Amazon according to their product type, so a product without a product type (its own or inherited from its category) is not exported.
Field mapping rules
When a product type is selected, the section shows the list of Amazon fields available for this product type. For each Amazon field, select the X-Cart field that provides the value in the Export from X-Cart product field column.
The list of X-Cart fields contains product properties (for example, Description or Arrival date) and attributes (marked Attribute). Fields that have no mapping rule yet show Not mapped.
You can keep the inherited rules or change them for this category. For example, to take the value of the Amazon field Item weight from the X-Cart field Weight, select Weight next to Item weight. This rule applies only to products of this product type in this category; products of the same product type in other categories are not affected.
In the same way you can override a rule set at the marketplace level. Suppose that at the marketplace level the Amazon field Product Description is filled from the X-Cart field Full description. For the category “Wheels” you can select Description instead. Then products from “Wheels” will use Description, and all other products of the same product types will keep using Full description.
Click Save changes to apply the rules.
Item Type Keyword
Item Type Keyword is an Amazon field that classifies the product. It differs from the other fields: instead of choosing an X-Cart field, you select a value from a separate list that Amazon defines for the selected product type.
The list of values depends on the product type you selected, not on the Amazon category.
Set the value at the category level or at the product level. The field is not available in the marketplace-level mapping.
The value is inherited: category, then subcategory, then product. If you change the product type of a specific product, check its Item Type Keyword: the list of values is different for each product type, and Amazon can reject a value that does not belong to the product type. You can set another value at the product level.
Amazon uses this field to classify the product.
Data mapping at the product level
You can also fine-tune the rules for a specific product. Open the product details and switch to the Amazon tab.
As on the category tab, select the marketplace first. The tab has two sections:
Export Options. Contains the Allow export to Amazon setting. The product is included in the feeds only if this setting is on.
Fields Mapping. Contains the Amazon category, Product type and field mapping rules. If the product has no values of its own, the tab shows the Amazon category and product type inherited from the product’s category in grey.
To treat the product as an exception, change the Amazon category or product type for it, or keep the product type and change only some mapping rules. The rules of the product override the rules of its category and of the marketplace.
In the list of X-Cart fields on a product’s Amazon tab you can also select the product’s own attributes (shown with the label “Product-specific attribute”) and the attributes of the product’s class (shown with the label “<class name> attribute”), which are not available at the marketplace level.
Mapping attributes of a product class (X-Cart 5.5.1.x)
In X-Cart 5.5.1.x, the Fields Mapping section on the category’s Amazon tab has one more setting, X-Cart product class.
By default, the list of X-Cart fields contains standard product properties and global attributes. To use attributes of a specific product class in the rules, do the following:
Select an Amazon category or a product type. The X-Cart product class setting appears below Product type; until you select a category or a product type, it is hidden.
Select the product class. To use no product class, leave No X-Cart product class selected. The list of fields reloads, you do not need to save the changes first.
In the Export from X-Cart product field column, the attributes of the selected product class are added to the standard product properties and global attributes. They are shown with the label “<class name> attribute”.
Click Save changes.
