Requires X-Cart 5.6.0.18 or later. Wholesale profiles didn’t exist in earlier versions — if your store is on an earlier release, only Custom pricing is available.
The Wholesale add-on lets you offer different prices depending on how many units a customer buys and which membership level they belong to. Wholesale Profiles let you define a set of discount tiers once, as a named template, and apply the same template to as many products as you like — instead of setting up tiers on every product individually.
You can access Wholesale Profiles from Store > Wholesale Profiles.
Creating a profile
Go to Store > Wholesale Profiles.
The Wholesale Profiles page opens.
Click New profile.
This opens a page where you can specify the details of your new wholesale profile.
Enter a Profile name. It must be unique across your store.
Leave Enabled checked (the default) so the profile is available to assign, or uncheck it to prepare a profile without exposing it yet.
Fill in at least one tier:
From qty — the quantity at which this tier’s price starts to apply. A tier applies from its From qty up to (but not including) the next tier’s From qty, or indefinitely if it’s the last one.
Membership — which membership level this price is for. Defaults to All customers.
Price % — the percentage of the base price the customer pays, not a discount amount. For example, 90 means the customer pays 90% of the price — a 10% discount.
Click New tier to add more rows. If the current row isn’t fully filled in yet, X-Cart won’t add a new one — it puts the cursor in the first empty field instead.
Click Create.
A profile must have at least one fully completed tier — you can’t save one with an empty or partial row, and you can’t remove the last remaining tier. Once saved, tiers are automatically sorted by From qty, from lowest to highest.
Editing a profile
To edit an existing profile, click on its name on the Wholesale Profiles list to open it.
The same rules as creating a profile apply: at least one complete tier is required, and tiers re-sort by From qty when you save.
Turning off Enabled doesn’t delete the profile or unassign it from products. On assigned products, the profile still shows as selected — marked (disabled) in the Profile dropdown — but the discount stops applying: customers are charged the regular base price instead of the tiered ones. Re-enabling the profile immediately restores the tiered pricing, with no need to touch the assigned products again.
If you delete a membership level that’s used in a profile’s tier, and that leaves the profile with no tiers at all, X-Cart automatically disables the profile and shows a message listing which profile(s) were affected. Add a tier back — with a different membership — to re-enable it.
Deleting a profile
On the Wholesale Profiles list, click the trash icon next to one or more profiles (or select several using the checkboxes).
Click Save changes.
Confirm in the Delete profile(s)? popup, which lists the profiles you’re about to delete and how many products are assigned to each.
Deleting a profile automatically switches every product that was using it to No wholesale — not to Custom pricing. This can’t be undone.
Assigning a profile to a product
Go to Catalog > Products and open the product.
Open the Wholesale Pricing section of the product page. Depending on how many tabs fit on your screen, it appears either as a tab of its own or under the More menu.
In the Wholesale status field, select Wholesale profile and pick a profile from the Profile dropdown.
Only enabled profiles are offered — unless the product is already assigned to a profile that’s since been disabled; that one still appears, labeled (disabled).
Click Save changes. The assignment only takes effect once you save — selecting a profile in the dropdown doesn’t apply it immediately.
The profile’s tiers appear below the dropdown as a read-only preview. To change them, edit the profile itself (see Editing a profile above) — the change applies to every product that uses it.
To stop using a profile on a product, switch its Wholesale status to No wholesale or Custom pricing. For what each of these options means, see Wholesale prices setup.
Assigning profiles in Bulk edit
Use Bulk edit to assign a profile to many products at once, or to remove wholesale pricing from them.
Go to Catalog > Products.
Select the checkbox next to each product you want to update. To find the right products faster, filter the list first — for example, by category, or by Wholesale status (see Wholesale prices setup).
Click Bulk edit selected, then choose Price and membership.
In the Wholesale profile field, click Click to specify and choose one of the options:
No wholesale — resets the selected products to the default (no discounts) and clears any Custom pricing tiers they had.
A specific profile — assigns it to all selected products. This also turns off Custom pricing for any of them that had it.
If you leave the field at Click to specify, the wholesale settings of the selected products stay as they are.
Click Save changes.
Bulk edit doesn’t offer Custom pricing as an option — since custom tiers are set per product, there’s nothing to apply in bulk. Use CSV import, or edit products individually, for that.
Finding the products that use a profile
To see which products a profile is assigned to:
Go to Store > Wholesale Profiles.
In the Assigned products column, find the number next to the profile you’re interested in. It shows how many products currently use that profile.
Click the number. X-Cart opens Catalog > Products with the list already filtered to exactly those products.
From there you can open any product to change its wholesale status, or select several and reassign them in bulk (see Assigning profiles in Bulk edit).
Alternatively, filter the product list yourself: the Wholesale status filter in Catalog > Products can show the products of any one profile — as well as products with Custom pricing or no wholesale pricing at all. See Wholesale prices setup for details.
CSV import and export
The products CSV includes a wholesaleProfile column, containing the profile’s name.
Leave the cell empty to leave a product’s wholesale settings unchanged.
Enter a profile name to assign that profile.
Enter NULL (not case-sensitive) to remove a profile assignment.
A product’s mode depends on both its profile assignment and whether it has Custom pricing tiers, so updating only one of the two columns can give an unexpected result. For example, if you set wholesaleProfile to a profile name but leave wholesalePrices untouched, any existing custom tiers stay in place — the product remains in Custom pricing mode rather than switching to the profile. To move a product from Custom pricing to a profile, set wholesaleProfile to the profile’s name and wholesalePrices to NULL in the same import.
Upgrading from an earlier version: what happens to existing wholesale prices
If you were using the Wholesale add-on before wholesale profiles were introduced (X-Cart 5.6.0.18), your existing wholesale prices weren’t lost or changed. Every product that had wholesale pricing configured is automatically switched to Custom pricing, keeping the exact tiers it already had. Products without wholesale pricing are set to No wholesale.
Your profiles list starts out empty — there’s no automatic step that groups your existing per-product prices into new profiles. If you’d like to consolidate similar pricing into a reusable profile, create the profile yourself and reassign the relevant products to it — Bulk edit is the fastest way (see Assigning profiles in Bulk edit above).
FAQ
Q: Can a Wholesale profile use fixed-price ($) tiers, like Custom pricing does?
A: No. Profile tiers only support percentage discounts. If specific products need fixed-price tiers, use Custom pricing on those products instead.
Q: I disabled a profile instead of deleting it — what happens to the products using it? A: They keep showing Wholesale profile mode with that profile selected (labeled (disabled)), but the discount no longer applies — customers pay the regular base price. Nothing is unassigned; re-enable the profile and the tiered pricing comes right back.
Q: What happens if I delete a membership level that a profile’s tier depends on?
A: If removing the membership leaves a profile with no tiers at all, X-Cart disables that profile automatically and tells you which one(s) were affected. Add a new tier — with a different membership — to bring it back.
