You can give certain products in your store a more prominent placement by showcasing them as featured. Featured products can appear on the store's Home page (Front page) or on the pages of your store's categories.

Category-page featured products are made available by the Featured Products add-on. On X-Cart 5.5.1.x-5.6.0.15, the same add-on can be used to add and manage featured products on the store's Home page. If you want to use this add-on, make sure it's installed and enabled before you continue.

On X-Cart 5.6.0.16 and later, Home page featured products don't need the Featured Products add-on — they're managed through the Storefront Builder, which is part of the core platform.)

Decide where you want to showcase products as featured in the storefront: on the

store's Home page, or on a product category page.

X-Cart 5.5.1.x–5.6.0.15:

Go to Design > Menus & Pages in your store's Admin area. On the Catalog Pages tab, select Front page.

This opens a page for the management of your catalog Home page. Switch to the Featured Products tab.

Then continue with adding products to the list below.

Locate the category or subcategory you need on the categories listing page in your

store's Admin area (Catalog > Categories) and open its Featured Products tab:

In the Featured Products tab, click the Add featured products button.

You will see the product picker—a popup where you can select the products to display as featured in the selected location.

Use the product picker to select one or more products and click Add products.

The selected products are added to the featured products list:

If you check the storefront, you will see the products you added as featured in the corresponding area — the category page, or (on X-Cart 5.5.1.x and X-Cart 5.6.0.0–5.6.0.15) the Home page.

Use the drag-n-drop icons next to the products to rearrange the featured products in the desired order. When you are done, click Save changes.

Use the cross icon next to a product to mark it for removal from the featured products list. The product will appear dimmed to indicate that it has been marked for removal. When you are done, click Save changes.

Q: What's the difference between the "Featured products" and "Featured product" sections in the Storefront Builder?

A: "Featured products" lets you showcase a curated list of several products. "Featured

product" spotlights a single product, such as a "Deal of the day." See Storefront Builder section settings reference (5.6.x) on both.

Q: I opened a category page in the Storefront Builder — why can't I add a Featured products section there?

A: The Storefront Builder lets you preview any page, including category pages, but you can only add new sections (such as "Featured products") to the Home page. To feature products on a category page, use the "Featured Products" tab on that category's page in Catalog > Categories, as described above.
