The add-on DHL integrates X-Cart with DHL Express, a global shipping company providing international express mail services with a network in over 220 countries and territories across the globe.

To start using DHL shipping facilities in your store, you need to have the DHL Shipping add-on installed and configured. General guides on the add-on installation you can find here.

Enabling DHL Shipping

To enable DHL shipping in your store:

  1. In the Shipping section of your X-Cart store’s Admin area (Store setup > Shipping), click the Add shipping method button:

  2. In the popup that appears, choose the DHL shipping method:

    You will be redirected to the DHL settings page.

  3. The DHL settings page looks as follows:

    • To use DHL XML Services, register on DHL.com with a Site ID and Password and obtain an Account number that provides access to the XML Services.

    • Configure the DHL add-on settings as described in DHL Add-on Settings.

  4. Click Submit.

  5. Enable the shipping method using the toggle at the top pf the page.

That’s it! The DHL shipping is enabled and added to the shipping methods list in your store's Admin area (Store Setup -> Shipping).

When configured and enabled, the DHL shipping also becomes available to your store customers at checkout.

DHL Add-on Settings

The DHL add-on settings page consists of four sections.

Credentials

Use this section to specify the DHL Site ID and API password you gained when registered an account with DHL.

Module Settings

Use this section to configure the basic DHL add-on settings.

  • DHL Account: Specify your DHL account number if you want to use negotiated rates only. Otherwise, leave this field blank.

  • Discover new methods: Turn the toggle ON, if you need the new shipping methods to be discovered and enabled automatically during checkout.

  • Test mode: Tturn the toggle ON, if you want to check the DHL shipping processing before making it live.

  • Enable debugging: This option enables the logging of requests to the DHL server and responses from it. The logs are saved to DHL.log files in the /var/log/ folder.

  • API endpoint (production): The field value is preset.

  • API endpoint (test): The field value is preset.

Additional Settings

Usse this section to add insured value to shipments if applicable.


Special services may imply extra fees. Please consult DHL before using this option.


Package Settings

Use this section to configure the package settings that will apply to both domestic and international shipments.

  • Dimension unit: Select the applicable dimension unit.

  • Weight unit: Select the weight unit.

  • Package box type: Select the type of packaging that will be used for shipments.

  • Package dimensions: Use these fields to define the default package size for DHL shipments (Length, Width, Height).

  • Maximum package weight: Specify the top limit of the package’s weight.

DHL Carrier Services

When the basic add-on settings are configured, proceed to the Carrier services tab of the settings page to configure the shipping services that will be available to your customers.

The list provides the DHL carrier services discoverd for your locale.

To enable/disable a service, use the ON/OFF icon in front of it.

To reorder the services, using the cross icon drag-n-drop them to the required position in the list.

Save the changes when you are done.

Testing DHL Rates

The Test rates tab of the settings page allows to test the DHL shipping configuration and check the accuracy of the rates calculation.

To test the DHL configuration:

  1. Specify package dimentions.

  2. Check the source address. It should match the address set in

  3. Specify the destination address.

  4. Click Get rates.
