It is possible to change your categories representation on your store site, so the categories are displayed horizontally as a part of your store's Primary menu.
If your categories display in the Primary menu, you will probably want to keep the regular categories' block out of the way. You can hide the categories block using the Layout Editor.
To add your categories as menus to the navigation panel of your store's Primary menu:
Add your categories as menus on the menu listing page (Content > Menus) in the store Admin area as described here.
To add links to the category pages, you will need to specify them using one of the following ways:
Relative path: ?target=category&category_id=4 ()
Absolute path: http://www.your_store_url.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=4 or https://www.your_store_url.com/category_name/ (if SEO-friendly URLs are enabled).
Shortcut : ‘{category_name}’
Make sure the category menus are enabled and appropriately ordered.
You can hide any menus you do not need from the Primary menu navigation panel.
Add submenus (optional).
For this purpose:
Open the menus listing page in your store Admin area (Content -> Menus):
Locate the menu you need to edit and click the Add button in the "Submenu" column:
On the page that opens, click New item (you can add as many submenus as required):
Fill in the fields to name a submenu, add a link to it and set the accessibility level and click Save changes:
Again, you can add as many submenu levels as you require.
Check your new site layout.
It is also possible to move the categories list to the horizontal bar using X-Cart's Horizontal Flyout Categories Menu add-on. However, it may be more accessible in terms of setup.
