Fastlane by PayPal in X-Cart

X-Cart provides integration with Fastlane by PayPal via X-Cart's PayPal add-on. Fastlane by PayPal is a fast checkout solution that lets guest customers complete purchases at your store with fewer steps by using saved information from their PayPal Fastlane profile. It simplifies the payment process, reducing cart abandonment and improving conversion rates. By offering Fastlane in your X-Cart store, you can provide a seamless and secure checkout experience. You can enable Fastlane by PayPal via your store's PayPal Checkout settings. See the section Enabling Fastlane by PayPal in the article Advanced Configuration of PayPal Checkout.

Important prerequisites: For Fastlane by PayPal to be functional, the PayPal Checkout payment method must be enabled and properly configured (with PayPal account credentials submitted and HTTPS enabled); for details, see the article on PayPal Checkout.

Checkout with Fastlane by PayPal in X-Cart

Checking out with Fastlane only makes sense for guest users. Customers who are already logged in to their account won’t experience any additional speed-up.

After adding products to the shopping cart, the user clicks the "Checkout" button to begin the checkout process.

On the next page, they choose to continue without an existing account.

This brings the guest user to the next page, which features X-Cart’s standard Secure Checkout form. Notice, however, that the only active field in the form at this point is the "Email" field of the "Shipping address" section. Below it, the "Fastlane by PayPal" watermark is provided for full consumer transparency.

The guest user enters the email associated with their PayPal Fastlane profile. The store then connects to PayPal to verify that the email exists in the PayPal system — this process is transparent to the user.

The further checkout flow varies depending on the verification results.

Checkout flow — Variant 1

If the email entered by the guest user is confirmed as registered with PayPal, a code entry form appears, and the user must enter the one-time code texted to their phone by PayPal.

Once the code is confirmed, X-Cart’s checkout process automatically loads the necessary data from PayPal linked to the guest user’s Fastlane profile.

This includes the user’s address and preferred payment method. If needed, the user can choose a different address or payment method from their PayPal account.

Please note that Fastlane by PayPal is selected automatically by default as the payment method to be used for checkout.

At this point, the user can still change the payment method, for example, to regular PayPal.

After the user accepts the Terms & Conditions and clicks "Place order", the order is created as usual.

The invoice provided to the user includes all the necessary information. The name of the payment method appears as Fastlane by PayPal.

Checkout flow — Variant 2

If the email entered by the guest user is not found in PayPal, the form is reset to allow editing of the previously blocked fields.

The user will have to fill all the required fields before they can proceed.

After choosing the shipping method and checking the shipping address, the user will get to the payment step with Fastlane by PayPal already pre-selected as the default payment option.

At this step, they will need to enter their billing information (it will be saved in PayPal for future use).

After the user accepts the Terms & Conditions and clicks "Place order", the order is created as usual.

The invoice provided to the user includes all the necessary information. The name of the payment method appears as Fastlane by PayPal.

Checkout flow — Variant 3

If the email entered by the guest user exists in PayPal, but the location associated with this account is not supported according to the store's Fastlane by PayPal settings, the PayPal account information is not loaded, and the Fastlane by PayPal checkout option is not provided. The user can complete the store’s Secure Checkout form manually and place the order using the standard method without Fastlane.
