After you've set up MMY filters and assigned products to them, use Fitment tab in your X-Cart Admin to track filter combinations and define a fitment type for products that don’t match any filters.

The fitment details set here appear on your storefront’s product listings and product details pages, helping customers quickly see if a product fits their selected filter.

What is Fitment and Fitment Type?

Fitment (or Fitment Combination) defines whether an aftermarket part will fit and work properly on the vehicle of your customer. It is based on details like make, model, year, submodel.

Fitment type shows how a product is categorized based on what it fits. In other words, is it made for a specific car, compatible with multiple vehicles, or a universal item anyone can use?

Understanding Fitment Types

X-Cart has three fitment types: Regular Product, Vehicle-Specific, and Universal Fit.

Regular Product

Default

For products that work with a wide range of vehicles, but not necessarily every vehicle – like engine oil, transmission fluid, and battery chargers.

These appear in search results regardless of the MMY filter.

Vehicle-Specific

For products linked to a specific Make/Model/Year (e.g., 2019 Toyota Camry).

These appear only if they match the selected MMY filter.

Universal Fit

For products that work with any vehicle – like seat covers, microfiber towels, and wrenches.

These appear in search results for every MMY filter.

After installing the Make/Model/Year add-on, all of your existing products are set to Regular Product by default. To change the fitment type, either update it manually on the Fitment tab or import fitments in bulk via CSV. We’ll cover how this works in more detail later.

🚗 If you use Auto Integrations, fitment data is imported automatically with the products, with the exception of wheels and tires.

Adding Fitment Note

A Fitment Note provides additional details about a part’s compatibility which help customers make informed decisions and reduce the chances of incorrect purchases.

Customer Experience

Any product with fitment details will display them across the following pages of your storefront:

  • Search results

  • Category and brand pages

  • Product lists (list view, table view, grid view)

  • Product details page (as a Vehicle Specific, Universal Fit, Regular Product label)

If a customer hasn't selected MMY it will show Vehicle-Specific. Clicking on this label allows customers to check if the part fits their vehicle.

When a customer's vehicle is compatible, they'll see Fits Your Vehicle. When not, they'll see Doesn't Fit Your Vehicle. See the example below for reference.
