What changed in 5.6.x

In 5.6.x, the order document is called order details, not "invoice". An order placed at checkout does not have an invoice in the accounting sense; the document you print is a copy of the order. Because of this, the buttons and some labels were renamed:

X-Cart 5.5.1.x

X-Cart 5.6.x

Print invoice

Print order details

Open PDF invoice

Download order details

Print packing slip (order page and Orders list)

Print packing slip on Orders > Shipments and in the Shipments tab of an order, see Packing slips

Invoice tab on the order page

Removed

"Invoice #" in the document and in email notifications

"Order #"

PDF file name invoice-<number>.pdf

order-<number>.pdf

The same renaming applies to the customer area: on the order confirmation (thank you) page the customer sees Print order details and Download order details, and on the customer's order page Print order details.

Printing or downloading order details for one order

  1. Go to Orders > Orders.

  2. Click the order number to open the order.

  3. Click Print order details to print the order, or Download order details to save it as a PDF file.

Both buttons are in the upper right corner of the order page, above the tabs. The document contains the order number and date, the shipping and billing addresses, the shipping and payment methods (with the transaction ID), the ship-from location and tracking numbers, the item list with prices and quantities, the totals and your store logo.

Print order details opens the browser print dialog. Download order details only saves the PDF file and does not open the print dialog (fixed in 5.6.0.21). If you do not have a printer, choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog.

Printing or downloading order details for several orders

On Orders > Orders, select the orders. The panel with bulk actions appears at the bottom of the page. To print, click the printer icon and select Print order details. To save a PDF, click Download order details. When several orders are printed at once, each order starts on a new page.

Packing slips cannot be printed from the Orders list in 5.6.x; use Orders > Shipments instead.

If the document does not fit on one page

A long address, many items or a large store logo can push the last lines (for example, Grand total) to a second page. In the print dialog, expand the additional settings and reduce the scale (for example, to 85–90%) until the preview shows one page.

FAQ

Q: Where is the Invoice tab?

A: In 5.6.x the tab is removed from the order page. Use Print order details or Download order details.

Q: Is there a way to print packing slips from the order page?

A: Not from the top of the order page. Open the Shipments tab of the order, click the three dots (...) on the shipment and select Print packing slip. See Packing slips.

Q: Why is my store logo hard to read in the printed document?

A: The printed document uses the same logo as the storefront. A light logo made for a dark header may be hard to read on white paper. Upload a logo that is readable on both dark and light backgrounds, or ask our support team about customizing the printed version.
